I am working hard on my game, but its obvious you cant supply everyone with what they want. So, I want to ask YOU, yes YOU, to provide me with some ideas to place into my game. This way, EVERYONE can enjoy it!
If there is something that you say that I think should be in, I'll likely add it
Just add a comment, and say what you think should be in this game. Its that easy!
Thankyou, and get those ideas rolling in!
This looks like an appropriate place to post my missile idea. Basically, I was thinking of a system for combining beams and missiles. (I suppose in a way generally reminiscent of the Charge Combos in Metroid Prime, although I never really liked those much.)
ReplyDeleteThe general idea is that you would pick one of your beams and it's effect would be added to your missiles. While this was selected that beam would be disabled on your beam gun. It could be toggled on/off in the power-up screen and the beam could be switched. There could be an item to allow beam combinations, or it could simply be something you can do automatically if you look for it.
Making it an item also could lead to some really interesting sequences that could be played multiple ways. For example, there could be a part that you can pass by using Plasma Beam, OR if you have the missile combination item and say Wave Beam the Missile-Wave combination could also pass that part.
Also, whether these combination activated whenever you fired a missile while it was equipped or whether you would have to fire a "charged missile" (ala Metroid Fusion hopefully) to fire it would be your decision completely.
Missile + Spazer: Fires 3 missiles in a spiraling pattern. It could either be similar to Spazer beam with a triple spread, or with the two outside being angled slightly up/down, or my preference being that the missiles fire slightly angled inward so that they all meet at a common point roughly half of the way across the screen and then spread further out after that point. (Uses 3 missiles per shot probably.)
Missile + Ice: Similar to the Diffusion Ice Missile from Metroid Fusion. (The missile includes the ice effect, it shoots out a spiral of freezing power after it hits it's target, but it deals approximately half damage or full damage on the target and no damage on the aoe effect.)
Missile + Wave: Missile pierces through walls. Also includes a homing effect ala Super Smash Bros Melee/Brawl. This could be used for multiple interesting puzzle sequences especially.
Missile + Plasma: Leaves behind a green field of Plasma after detonation. This can continue to damage enemies over time and Samus if she doesn't have the Varia/Gravity Suit (your choice).
Each missile would also have a unique use on bosses. Spazer missile allows you to dish out three times as much punishment. Ice missile might include a minor stacking effect that slows the boss for 1-2 seconds after being hit. (So if you spam it incredibly fast you might slow the boss as much as 25-50% for 2 seconds.) Wave missiles being homing and wall piercing have obvious boss applications. Especially against anything that would be similar to Nightmare from Metroid Fusion or Phantom from Super Metroid. Plasma missile fields that continue to damage bosses over time would be highly effective against any boss that tends to hold still alot or in combination with Ice missiles slowing it down.
Pretty much each of these is a unique power up but you have to question whether it's worth using because it requires disabling one of your beams and weakening Samus overall. (There may also be parts where you need all beams you've acquired so far to activate so you can't use missile-beam combination.)
I would also think that these do not work on Super Missiles at all. (Which hopefully will be done ala Super Metroid as their own missile type but much stronger and with much more limited ammo.)
Overall I think this type of system adds a massive amount of strategy to numerous situations and could create multiple power-up paths. (Ice missile and Wave missile especially could allow for sequence breaking.)
Thats a good idea of the missile combination, although it would be hard to implement into the game, but definately worth a shot.
ReplyDeleteI dont like the idea of mixed beams making a stronger beam, sort of anyway. All beams mixed together should only be slightly stronger than the previous beam you acquired, while gaining a new beam is a lot stronger than the beam you had previously.
I wouldn't know how to make a homing missile look in a 2d game. Maybe you can only home on certain places that flash, which you can choose out of, so a boss can flash on its head, or you can press down and it will flash on its body etc, and you shoot where the flashed area is.
Good ideas overall
Another idea mildly inspired by someone else:
ReplyDeleteIcy areas with slippery floors. It would make it difficult and/or impossible to do certain things while on ice. However, you could also get a speed boost from running on it which could help with other puzzles.
A possible item to go with this would be "Friction Boots". Having them turned on allows you to walk normally on ice and wall-jump. Turning them on/off could be the source of interesting puzzles.
